God’s Will or Man’s Will? November 13, 2009

If I’m not mistaken, a person who claims to be a Christian believes that God is the Creator of the Universe, Sovereign, Almighty, Omniscient, Omnipresent, All Powerful, right?  I’ve been in a church where we were told never to pray, “Thy will be done,” but instead to “come boldly to the throne of grace” and tell God exactly what we want, and He’ll give it to us…Praying for God’s will to be done was said to show lack of faith, disobedience to the Word, and whatever else…They use Scriptures such as John 15:16 and John 16:23 to justify it.  John 15:16 says, Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.”  Jesus tells them that  that they didn’t choose Him, He chose THEM..what I get from that is that we’re supposed to conform to Him, not have Him conform to us.  Secondly, we’re supposed to ask the Father in Jesus’ name.  As of recently, I’ve looked at “in Jesus’ name” a different way…the manner in which it was taught to me was basically that “in Jesus’ name” at the end of my prayer was my “stamp” so to speak, that sent my prayer directly to the Father.  However, I’ve come to see that “in Jesus name” means: 1. Jesus is the sole reason that I’m able and allowed to go directly to God, 2. The prayer in His name must line up with Him, who He is, and what He stands for.  Your boss’ name itself, the actual letters and phonetic sound, is just a name…The PERSON, the WHO, that  the name stands for is what gets the recognition and holds weight..It’s because of who Jesus is and what He did that I can pray in His name…Having that in mind, whatever I ask of the Father according to what His will is (and what His Word says that is applicable to me), because He chose me for His purposes and not the other way around, in the name of Jesus, (or because who Jesus is and what He did), I can have what I ask for…

So then, I beg, explain to me the following:

Matthew 6:9-13, After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”  Here, Jesus was telling the disciples how to pray: First, give glory and honor to God, second, pray for God to have His way on this earth like He does in heaven (have HIS will be done), Third, ask God for daily provision of your necessities, Fourth, when you stand praying, forgive, that your father in heaven may forgive you(Mark 11:25), Fifth, ask God to order your steps/direct your path.  This was Christ’s instructions on how to pray, yet preachers are telling people NOT to pray this way…asking things according to God’s will and praying that His will be done is not a sign of weak faith..on the contrary, it IS faith because it’s doing what the Word says, and it’s giving up your own desires in order to let God have His way, trusting Him…..He is, in fact, wiser than us all…

1John 5:14-15 says,“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.”  The Scripture tells us that if we ask anything according to God’s will, THEN He hears us.  He hears us and grants us the petitions we desire of Him when we ask according to His will..not our own will, what we want, or what we think we want…I’m not in the business of bossing God around…

James 4:13-15 says, “Go to now, you that say, Today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:  Whereas you know not what shall be on the morrow.  For what is your life?  It is even a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.  For that you ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.”  It wasn’t even recommended for people to go around saying, “I’m gonna do this” or “I’m gonna go there”, but they were to forfeit their will to the Lord’s will…not force Him to do what we want Him to do…It doesn’t work that way…We need to fear God and acknowledge that He gets the final say so…

God is not going to give you WHATEVER you want just because you want it and you put your Jesus “stamp” on it..He knows more than you do, and He knows what He wants you to have and what He doesn’t want you have because He knows what you can handle and what you can’t handle…Whatever God doesn’t give you, there’s a reason He hasn’t given it to you..it may not be for you at this moment, or it may not be for you, period..Let God be God…Otherwise, you’ll end up getting what you want and it’ll destroy you, and God may allow it to happen because you didn’t seek Him, you sought what it was that YOU wanted…

It all boils down to the fact that we need to seek God constantly, and He’ll let us know what His will is for our life..and hearbreaking newsflash:  it might not have anything to do with what YOU and your fleshly, carnal desires long for…When you find out what God’s will is for your life through much prayer and much study in His Word, then ask Him to give you what you need to carry it out, and ask for His guidance and direction, and stay in His face…but let’s not confuse God’s will for our own will..Christ said to deny yourself..that means your own will too…you were bought with a price and are not your own…Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise…Why would God bend to your will when you were created to bow to His?  Proverbs 19:21, “There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.”
